We Will Work to Solve This Together

What has caused your voice to decline?

Parkinson’s Disease creates physical, emotional, and social challenges. Over time, you lose your ability to use your voice to connect with others and face isolation and loneliness. Others begin to leave or not include you in the conversation. I will help you understand the physical changes in your voice. Knowing the why behind what has happened will help you understand these challenges and help you find your voice.

Parkinson’s is a movement disorder. To maintain function, you have to keep moving. I’ll explain how your voice is affected neurologically due to the decrease in dopamine production. Due to the degenerative nature of the disease, you will always need to pursue a purposeful, mindful, and deliberate way of speaking. I will help you meet that goal.

Parkinson’s patients CAN and DO learn to speak with stronger, louder, and clearer voices.

You Can Trust Me

Let’s talk about your needs and goals.

During this program, I will clearly communicate what you are to do to make your voice louder, stronger, and clearer. I’ll show you how you are to do it to achieve success. Steps to restore your voice will be modeled to reach your goals in communication. I am a coach and will communicate well all along the way to ensure your success. I am also your biggest cheerleader!

Parkinson’s Speech Recovery uses evidence-based therapy techniques that have been proven successful through decades of research. I can share this research with you.

I’m a Good Listener… I Can Hear You

Let’s create a plan just for you.

We will start where you are and address your concerns. We will pinpoint and work on areas of most concern to you and those that will make the greatest impact on your ability to let your voice be heard.

I believe in you! No matter where you are today, you can make progress. You have the strength within you that I’ll help you find.

There is HOPE

Our one-on-one therapy sessions will encourage you. There is HOPE. You can and will find your voice again.

Together, we will connect and find strategies to address your needs. We will identify progress, measure outcomes, and celebrate the successes you find moment by moment and daily!

Every session will be a step forward in your journey. Most patients complete therapy in four short weeks before moving on to a maintenance program.

A plan without follow-up is ineffective. After completing our one-on-one sessions, I’ll schedule times to check in with you. You will want to know how to maintain your new skills and have a plan to continue your journey of success. You will be so excited to have your old self back, and you won’t want to risk “falling off the wagon.”

Just Imagine What You’ll Be Saying in Four Short Weeks…

People don’t ask me to repeat myself anymore.
My voice is loud enough for others to hear me.
My speech is much clearer and easier to understand.
My grandchildren want me to read to them.
I can make a presentation at work.
I no longer feel isolated.
I don’t stutter anymore.
My cough is so much better – or maybe even gone.
I don’t mumble anymore. My articulation is clearer.
My voice is more predictable.
I enjoy being in conversations with others.
The loneliness is gone – I am participating with others.
My throat is less scratchy, and my voice is not as hoarse.
My doctor talks to me now and asks what is happening.

My muscles used for swallowing are stronger.
Using the telephone is no longer scary.
Ordering at the drive-through window is easy now.
I now have the tools I need to increase my volume and breath support.
My overall expression is better.
Socializing in groups is fun.
I can engage with others again.
My vocal pitch, intonation, and expression have improved.
My voice does not “trail off” at the end of sentences.
I have a new sense of self-worth and confidence.
My speech is purposeful, mindful, and deliberate.
I have established routines of practice.
Others are engaged with me in conversation.
I am experiencing increased control over what I do each day.

About Me

How It All Started

My mother gets the credit for steering me to the field of Speech Pathology.

She was the first to recognize my genuine desire and bent to help others. As a babysitter in high school, I naturally worked with little children to improve their speech. My mother noticed and helped me to explore my interests. This led me to focus on speech and language therapy in college and beyond.

My experiences for the past 25+ years have led me to find my passion for working with Parkinson’s patients.

Whether you are a family member, a caretaker, or an individual diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, I can help you understand what is happening. I see how your world is changing and sense your thoughts and feelings.

You are in the right place.

Traditional speech therapy presents major challenges to successful voice therapy due to the neurological changes you are experiencing.

It can prove difficult to find the resources you need to “find your voice.” Parkinson’s Speech Recovery has the experience to help you succeed.
